Brewton City School Board members made a decision Monday that will result in a dramatic change in the T.R. Miller High School locker rooms.
Lynn Smith, superintendent of Brewton City Schools, said plans are to renovate the locker rooms at the high school to make way for a new kind of facility.
The bid for the work was awarded to Lattice Construction in Mobile for a total price tag of $131,000. Additional work planned in the old gym area with roofing repairs expected as part of the project.
The roof repair work fell under the guidelines that require the job to be let for bidding, Smith said. Wedgeworth Roofing will be contracted to make the changes and repairs to the existing roof under public works guidelines.
School board members also agreed to add a new school bus to the existing fleet for the system. Smith explained funding for the bus is already in place and will be an in-budget expense.
Smith said the system has approximately $21,000 set aside in funds that are specifically earmarked for transportation purchases in the system. The additional funding needed for the purchase of the bus will come from the fleet renewal funds.
Smith said the bus should be delivered to the system in time for the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year.
