Mr. John Walker Woods, 83, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009. He was a member of Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and he is preceded in death by two daughters, Virginia Fountain and Ethel Herbert; and one son, Claude James Woods.
He is survived by five sons, John (Mary), Arthur “Hotrod” (Pearl), Edward (Minister Marjorie), Larry (Jennifer) and Steve (Denise) Woods; three daughters, Nellie, Carrie and Dianna Woods, all of Brewton; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; seven sisters-in-law, Lucille Hawthorne,  Ivory Lee King, Ella Ruth Elliott, Annette Jenkins, Mary Emma Spears, Willie John Spears, and Bernice Woods; two brothers-in-law, Eddie Lee Elliott and Matthew Jenkins; and a host of other friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 30, at 11 a.m. at Greater Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny F. Atkins officiating. Burial followed at Second Bethel Church Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
