Get ready to go shopping

Have you decided what you’re going to spend your $20 on next week? I’ve been pretty busy lately and haven’t had time to window shop, but I’ve got some ideas about what to look for.
The Brewton Standard is hoping that next Wednesday, everyone in our community will spend $20 on the 20th. It’s a simple gesture — and you probably already were planning to spend $20 on something that day — but we hope it will show the importance of shopping locally.
The Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce is helping us to promote the idea, and so far we have many businesses in Brewton and East Brewton that are helping us out as well.
Those businesses will give “I spent $20 on the 20th” stickers to their customers that day — similar to the “I voted” stickers — so that we can continue to spread the word.
So far, Danny has these businesses taking part in his effort: WEBJ, Weaver’s, Treasure Chest, Medical Center Pharmacy, Jus Do, Bracken’s, Milligans, Dr. McInnish and First Exchange Bank.
Our “$20 on the 20th” campaign carries a great slogan, but to us this is so much more than a gimmick. Spending locally is vitally important to our community. The money spent here generates sales taxes that fund our city services in both Brewton and East Brewton, and it continues to circulate here, with businesses and their employees turning it over at least three times in the community — tripling the impact of every dollar you spend.
Coming Sunday, we’ll take a look at all of the ways that spending $20 — or any dollars — in Brewton and East Brewton helps our community.
And a week from today, we hope to see all of you out shopping.
