Mrs. Myra Hannah Baxley Hughes, 68, died Friday, May 8, 2009, at her residence after an extended illness. She was a native of Samson and a resident of Brewton since 1956. She was a retired clerk stenographer with the State of Alabama and a charter member of Alco Baptist Church where she was involved in the children’s nursey and the food bank. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Baxley and a granddaughter, Gina Mire.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Dan Hughes Sr. of Brewton; a son, Dan (Sandra) Hughes Jr. of Fairhope; two daughters, Elysia (Johnathon) Downing and Martha Sandrick, both of Brewton; two grandsons; and two nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 11, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Coburn officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens with Williams Memorial Funeral Home directing.
