JD falls at state|Shelton and CVCC eliminate Warhawks

After advancing to the winners’ bracket, the JDCC baseball team dropped an 8-7 contest to Shelton State to fall in the losers’ bracket. The Warhawks then lost 11-9 to Chattahoochee Valley to end their season with a 28-21 record.
Shelton 8, JDCC 7
Despite having hit four homeruns in the game, the Warhawks baseball team had their 13-game win streak end with an 8-7 loss to Shelton State Tuesday night in the state tournament.
JDCC trailed by scores of 5-2 after three innings and 7-4 after four innings, but scored runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and tied the game at 7-7 on a solo homerun by Reid Wynn.
With the game tied at 7-7, Shelton homered to claim an 8-7 lead and hang on for the one-run win.
The loss dropped JDCC to 28-20 and forced them into a losers bracket game Wednesday against Chattahoochee Valley.
Andrew Favant took the loss on the mound. Favant went 4 2/3 inning allowing one earned run on three hits, walked two and struck out six.
Michael Clay also pitched in the loss going 3 1/3 inning and allowing seven runs on seven hits, walked four and struck out three.
Blake Long and Cody Sanderson both had two-run homeruns in the loss for the Warhawks and Ryne Phillips and Wynn had solo homeruns.
Long was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Sanderson was 1-for-5 with two RBIs. Phillips was 1-for-5 with one RBI and Wynn was 1-for-4 with one RBI.
C.J. Lindsey was 1-for-2 with a double and Cody Turner was 1-for-5 with a double. Ben Blodgett was 1-for-3 in the loss.
JDCC held an early 2-0 after the top of the first inning, but Shelton scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead.
Shelton added two runs in the bottom of the third inning to have a 5-2 lead, but JDCC cut the lead to 5-4 with two runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Shelton took a 7-4 lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and JDCC tied the game at 7-7 in the top of the seventh inning.
Blevins said in a situation such as that, you have to try to find a focal point for your club to grasp and work towards.
Chattahoochee Valley 11, JDCC 9
After already having one loss in the tournament, JDCC lost 11-9 to Chattahoochee Valley to end their run in the tournament and end their season with a two-run loss and a 28-21 record.
JDCC fell behind early in the loss 9-0 after three innings as Chatt. Valley scored four runs in the second inning and five in the third inning.
JDCC responded with a run in the bottom of the third inning and four in the fifth inning to cur the lead to 9-5.
Chatt. Valley added two runs in the top of the eighth inning to grab an 11-5 lead. Trailing by six runs, JDCC added four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to get as close as two runs at 11-9, but failed to score any more.
Hunter Brown took the loss on the mound for JDCC as he went two innings and allowed runs on five hits, three walks and struck out one.
Long was 3-for-5 with one RBI at the plate and Sanderson was 2-for-4 with one RBI and a homerun.
Phillips was 2-for-5 with a double and Turner was 2-for-5 with one RBI.
Ben Negus was 2-for-4 with one RBI and a double in the loss for the Warhawks.
