Mrs. Ruby Clyde Preyer Washington, 78, died recently. She was a native of Brewton, and had lived for many years in New York City. She was a former employee of Judy Bond Fashions in Brewton and worked in the garment district of New York until her retirement. She was educated in the schools of Brewton and was a member of Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Dean; her step-son, Charles Washington; a grandson, Brian Wright; and her son-in-law, Charles Bradley Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Joseph H. Washington Sr.; her daughters, Dr. Margaret Ann Breland Bradley and Tamara Washington (Richard) Leach, both of Brewton; her sons, Alvin (Theresa) Preyor of Queens, N.Y., William Preyor and Joseph H. (Joy) Washington Jr., both of Villa Rica, Ga., her stepson, Donald R. (Marilyn) Washington of East Stroudsburg, Penn., and James Gregory Washington of Brewton; her step-daughter, Joann Hilton of Bayonne, N.J.; her sister, Minnie (Willie) Wilson of Brewton; her brother, John (Dorothy) German of Brewton; a sister-in-law, Jean McDonnico; her brothers-in-law, James (Eula) Mallard and Leonard (Hattie) McConnico; her grandchildren, Charles T. Bradley, Evan Washington, Keenan (Petress) Preyor, William Preyor Jr., Alvin Preyor Jr., Malik Leach, Sean Leach, Cynthia Rice, Kwana Bradley, Tomika Preyor, Hope (John) Daley, Katrina Heatherington, Anita Washington, Nechama Preyor, Dinorah Preyor, Laylia Leach, Jaela Washington, Janae Washington and Charmain Stevenson; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of other friends and family members.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 9, at 2 p.m. at Baptist Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Eric Andrews officating. Burial followed at Bethlehem Church Cemetery in the Boykin community with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
