Members of the Brewton Fire Department will begin testing fire hydrants across the city this week in an effort to ensure proper operation in the event of an emergency.
Brewton Fire Chief Lawrence Weaver said flushing hydrants is a necessary tool for the department.
Weaver said hydrants in the Alco area will be the first to be tested beginning Monday. “We will start in Alco this week and will work toward the north end of the city,” Weaver said.
Residents may experience some water problems including discoloration during the testing period, Weaver said.
