Wayne Howard never lost his smile. Through long months of fighting a battle against cancer, he remained both optimistic and realistic.
That sense of optimism served him not only in his battle against cancer but as a businessman and East Brewton city ouncilman.
Howard and his partners founded the company Nutex after their previous plant closed up shop in Brewton. They found investors and customers and re-opened the plant with local employees.
Howard was a dedicated public servant, working for many years as a city councilman in East Brewton and supporting the businesses, organizations and schools in the community.
Howard was also a member of East Brewton Methodist Church, where he used his talent as a singer to praise God with the quartet known as “Joyful Noise.” Even through his illness, Howard kept singing with the group.
Even before his cancer diagnosis, Wayne Howard was an example of how one man can have a big impact on his community. His fight against cancer only magnified his character.
Howard lost his battle on Friday, but in facing his death with the utmost courage, he has shown all of us how to live.
