Nick Etheridge, a senior to-be at T.R. Miller High School, may or may not play for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team after graduation, but he has experienced what it would be like.
Etheridge, a big Alabama fan and T.R, Miller Tiger football player, recently completed the Nick Saban football camp in Tuscaloosa.
The camp lasted from noon Sunday to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Campers practiced two hours Sunday, four hours Monday and Tuesday and an hour and a half Wednesday.
At night, Etheridge and the campers played a unique game.
Etheridge started playing football during his eighth grade year.
Etheridge said after taking a tough loss last year in the final seconds of the game to Cordova in the semi-finals, he and the T.R. Miller Tigers have some motivation for his senior season.
While Etheridge still has one more year of high school football left to play, he said he would like to play college football, if not at Alabama, somewhere.
While Etheridge is a huge Alabama fan along with his family, that was just one reason to go to the camp this summer.
Etheridge and the Tigers will begin the 2009 football season on Aug. 28 at home against Escambia County.
On Aug. 22, the Tigers will play a preseason game against defending 3A state champion Leeds in Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl in the AHSAA’s fourth annual Challenge of Champions.
The game will be played at 5 p.m. followed by a game with Hoover against Oxford at 7:30 p.m
