Saturday morning brought another heat wave, but it also brought a wave of people into Burnt Corn Creek Park for the 29th annual Alabama Blueberry Festival.
The chamber had set up cooling tents and misting fans to help festival-goers and participants cope wit the high temperatures. A few people required medical attention, but none was transported to the hospital, Jones said.
Activities included arts and crafts vendors, children’s games, a petting zoo and sales of blueberries, blueberry ice cream and blueberry cobbler.
Jones said the misting fans were such a success, the chamber may try to bring them back next year, even if the heat is no so oppressive.
Next year’s event will be even bigger — in addition to the 30th anniversary of the Blueberry Festival, the city will be celebrating its 125th anniversary and the state of Alabama’s tourism department is encouraging communities to celebrate “Small Towns Downtown.”
