Flomaton police on Monday arrested a local convicted sex offender for being too close to a daycare.
Flomaton Police Chief Tim R. Hardage said a warrant was issued for the arrest of Dwight Anthony Dixon, 39, of Flomaton. A local resident recognized Dixon from a photograph and reported to police that Dixon was employed at a local store, Hardage said.
Police investigated and determined the convenience store on Sidney Manning Boulevard was 778 feet from a pre-school facility.
Records indicated Dixon had been employed at the store since March.
Under Alabama law, Title 15-20-26, a registered sex offender is not allowed to live or be employed in certain areas, which include within 2,000 feet of a school or preschool. Violation of this law is a felony, Hardage said.
Dixon was convicted in 2003 for solicitation sexual battery of minor. According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the incident occurred in Florida and the victim was a 15-year-old male.
Hardage said that there are currently ten registered sex offenders living in Flomaton.
