Mrs. Meredith Ellen Lovett Biggs, 88, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, in a Morristown, Tenn. care center after a brief illness. She was a native of Childersburg, and a former resident of Sylacauga, before moving to Brewton in 1956. She was a member of East Brewton Church of the Nazarene and retired from Monsanto. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Biggs; a son,  Edward Thornburg; and a brother, Thomas Lovett.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Thornburg of Spanish Fort; three grandchildren, Michael Edward Thornburg, Donna Thornburg George and David Craig Thornburg; two stepsons, James Biggs of Atmore, and David Biggs of Indiana; a stepdaughter, Suzanne Biggs Depew of Indiana; a brother, Opal Lovett of Jacksonville; four sisters, Estelle Mullins and Lucille Brooks, both of Birmingham, Delilah Harris of Huntsville, and Edna Rideout of Meridian, Miss.; two half brothers, Jimmy Lovett of Sylacauga, and Leo Lovett of North Carolina; two half sisters, Martha Lovett Oliver and Hester Lovett Tucker; six great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. James Meadows and Brother Herbert Heller officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
