Babe Ruth 15-year-olds defeat Monroe County

The Brewton Babe Ruth 15-year-old All Star team made it a perfect sweep for teams heading to state Thursday night in Atmore as they defeated Monroe County 9-3 to win the district championship.
The win made all three Brewton Babe Ruth teams eligible for the state tournament.
Brewton, after falling to Monroe County 4-3 Tuesday night, fell into the losers bracket and had to win two games on Wednesday to get to the championship game and defeated Monroe County by six for the win.
Brewton defeated Atmore in the first game on Wednesday 12-2 and then defeated Monroe County 13-3 in the second game.
Hunsinger said the team should have wrapped up the championship Wednesday.
In the game Thursday, Brewton scored four first inning runs and then added a run in the second, third and seventh innings along with two runs in the fourth while holding Monroe to just two first inning runs and one in the fourth to get the six-run win.
Gary McGraw picked up the win on the mound for Brewton as he went three innings. Joseph Strength pitched two innings along with one each from Conner Denton and Keith Bradley.
Denton, Caleb McAnally and Logan Williamson were all 2-for-4 in the win and Reid Johnson was 1-for-4.
McGraw was 2-for-2 and Collin Graves was 1-for-2. Williamson had two RBIs in the win for Brewton.
Wednesday game one: Brewton 12, Atmore 2
Keith Bradley went the complete game on the mound and allowed only two runs, four hits, and struck out six as Brewton advanced with a 12-2 win over Atmore.
Bradley walked only one in the win.
Brewton trailed 2-0 after the top of the first inning but scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second, five in the fourth and one in the fifth for the 10-run win.
Caleb McAnally was 1-for-3 for Brewton at the plate in the win with a homerun and four RBIs.
Culliver was 1-for-2 and Reid Johnson was 2-for-2. Logan Williamson was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Gary McGraw and Bradley had an RBI each in the win.
Wednesday game two: Brewton 13, Monroe County 3
In their second game Wednesday night, Brewton picked up their second 10-run rule win of the night as they defeated Monroe 13-3 and force a deciding game for the championship on Thursday.
Brewton led 4-0 after the first inning, but after Monroe scored three runs in the second inning to cut the lead to one run, Brewton score nine unanswered to win by 10.
Logan Williamson was a perfect 3-for-3 for Brewton in the win with a homerun and a double and two RBIs.
McAnally was 1-for-4 with his second homerun in as many games and two RBIs.
Culliver was 1-for-3 and Johnson was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
McGraw was 1-for-2 in the win and Louis Miller was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs to end the game.
Strength picked up the win on the mound for Brewton going four innings and allowing three runs on nine hits, walked one, hit one and struck out four.
Denton went two innings and allowed one hit, two walks and struck out two.
Tuesday: Monroe County 4, Brewton 3
The 15-year-old Brewton Babe Ruth team had only three hits Tuesday night against Monroe County as they lost 4-3.
With the loss, Brewton fell into the losers bracket and was set to play Atmore Wednesday night in Atmore.
Brewton held a 3-0 lead after the third inning as they scored one run in the first inning and two in the third inning.
With the 3-0 lead, Monroe County scored three runs in the fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3 before scoring the winning run in the seventh inning.
Conner Denton got the start on the mound and the no-decision. Denton went 4 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on two hits, walked two and struck out six.
Joseph Strength took the loss and went 2 2/3 innings allowing one run on two hits, and struck out two.
Monterius Culliver was 1-for-4 and Denton was 1-for-3.
Reid Johnson was 1-for-3 for Brewton’s third hit.
