Brewton and East Brewton merchants are gearing up for another day of bargains designed to encourage local shoppers to keep their business in Brewton.
Monday marks the second Spend $20 on the 20th event, sponsored by The Brewton Standard and the Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce.
Some employers are giving their employees $20 to spend, and there will be stickers for everyone who buys from a participating business.
Carol Fountain, who works at The Treasure Chest, said the store also participated the first time. She hopes Monday’s event will be even better.
Michelle Jones, administrative assistant with the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, said this event encourages shoppers to keep their money in town.
Keeping dollars local helps keep sales tax money in Brewton and East Brewton, and it also keeps money circulating in the community, merchants said.
Danny Cottrell, owner of Medical Center Pharmacy, said although his business already attracts local shoppers, he is participating.
Jack O’Neal, who manages the Habitat Restore, said this will be the first time the store will participate in Spend $20 on the 20th.
There are 17 stores participating this year: Bonehead Boots, Rebecca’s, Medical Center Pharmacy, Weaver’s Fine Apparel, The Hourglass, Discount Tobacco, Jus Do, The Cracked Pot, Chicago Hair, Brewton Outdoors, Southern Heirlooms, Xanadu, Kut-n-Up, Cannon’s Carpets, Treasure Chest, Habitat Restore and Verobella.
Each of these businesses will have extra bargains. See page 2A of today’s edition for more information about sales at participating businesses.
