One of Brewton’s most recognizable beautification efforts — the hanging baskets of flowers outside local businesses — was damaged by vandals last week.
Police and city officials are working to find out who pulled down the baskets from several businesses on St. Nicholas Avenue.
The city’s public works department maintains the flower baskets, watering them on a regular basis and replanting as needed.
When the vandalism was discovered, the baskets were quickly restored.
Brewton Tree and Beautification Board Chairman Joe Gordy said he believes authorities will find out what happened to the baskets.
