After 20 years as head coach at T.R. Miller and entering his 21st season, Jamie Riggs has been through a lot of summer workouts, but this year is a little different.
While the Tigers will open their 2009 schedule the same night as others, this year the Tigers will play a preseason game the week before against defending 3A state champion Leeds in Montgomery at the Champions Challenge.
Riggs said he usually practiced offense one day and defense the other day and held workouts two days a week.
Summer workouts ended with the camp this past week through Friday and its time to play football, Riggs said.
So far, Riggs is pleased with what he has seen from players, he said.
Riggs and the Tigers did one 7-on-7 camp this summer at UMS-Wright in Mobile.
The players have jumped in with practice to help prepare for the Champions Challenge, Riggs said.
T.R. Miller and Leeds will play Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
The Tigers will take on Escambia High School at home in Brewton on Friday, Aug. 28 for the first game of the 2009 season.
