Ms. Sara Nita Lundy, 84, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2009, at her residence. She was a native of Brewton and a long time resident of Texas. She was retired from the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and had served in several countries around the world. She was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was named U.S. Army Nurse of the Year in 1967. She later served in Washington, D.C., as Chief of the Army Nurses Corps and in 1975, when she retired, she was Chief, Department of Nursing, Brooks Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas. She was a supporter of the Humane Society and chaired the Tail Waggers Golf Tournament for 14 years.
She is survived by a friend, Eleanor Heimann of Sunrise Beach; a niece, Peggy Turner of North Augusta, S.C.; a nephew, Donahue (Mary) Hall of Alpharetta, Ga. and a niece and nephew, Sandy (Ronnie) Padgett and Billy (Cyndi) Lundy, all of Brewton.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 27, at 11 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, with Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home directing.
