Dough is flying at Bakie’s Deli and Bakery in East Brewton with the addition of hand-tossed pizza to the restaurant menu.
The addition of pizzeria-style pizza to the menu at Bakie’s makes the locally owned and operated establishment unique to the area, Chris McClelland, co-owner said.
Not only are the sizes and hand-tossed crusts unique to the area, the variety of pizzas available also brings a new flavor to a classic Italian dish, Josh Davis, pizza maker, said.
Davis said homemade sauces are also created daily to ensure the best quality on the pies.
Davis said a combination of smoked Gouda and Parmesan are mixed with a mozzarella cheese-base to create a signature blend of cheeses that give the pizza a special flavor.
In addition to the white pizza, Bakie’s has Greek and Hawaiian-style pizzas that offer a change from the ordinary.
However, for those pizza lovers who crave traditional pizza, typical varieties are also available and include a triple cheese and meat lover’s version of the pies. Vegetarians can also get their taste buds treated with a vegetable pizza that has everything including broccoli.
Toppings for the pizzas include bases of olive oil and garlic, red sauce, white sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, Gouda, feta and cheddar cheeses; meat toppings of pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, bacon and ham; and vegetables including pepperoncinis, artichoke hearts, onions, olives, Roma tomatoes, mushrooms, green pepper, broccoli, fresh garlic, pineapple and cracked pepper. Prices for the pies begin at $5.
Bakie’s Deli and Bakery is located in the East Brewton Plaza on Forrest Avenue. The restaurant is open from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
