An 18-year-old W.S. Neal High School graduated died Thursday night of injuries he sustained in a four-wheeler accident Wednesday afternoon.
Cody Michael Brown was an “all around good boy,” Principal Phillip Ellis said as family, friends and former classmates mourned Brown’s death.
The accident happened on Travis Road just after 4 p.m. Wednesday, and Brown was airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla., via LifeFlight, Alabama State Troopers said.
At the hospital, Brown underwent a battery of tests that revealed there was no brain activity, a family friend said. He died Thursday evening.
Students and faculty at W.S. Neal High School were mourning the passing of Brown, who graduated in May.
Ellis said Brown was an honors student and was in the top of his class.
Brown, who played tight end and defensive end on the W.S. Neal football team, always put in great effort with the team, head coach Kevin Jordan said.
Jordan said Brown’s efforts made him popular with students and with faculty at the school.
Jordan said Brown continued to support the students at Neal as recently as Tuesday night.
Jordan said some of the current team’s members played football with Brown and could be affected by the loss.
Funeral arrangements were pending Friday, but Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home will be in charge of services.
