Mr. Edward Harvey Hoomes, 96, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, in a local hospital. He was a native and life long resident of Escambia County. During his working years, he was employed by Luttrell Hardware. He was an active member of the Brewton Church of Christ and was preceded in death by a grandson, Jackson Hoomes and a great-granddaughter, Emma Elizabeth Martin.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Elizabeth Tyree Hoomes; their children, Edward Harvey (Betty) Hoomes Jr., Jackson Fletcher (Bonnie) Hoomes, Ann Hoomes (Charles) Coale, Marvin Thomas Hoomes, and Juanita Hoomes (Jimmy) Martin; 12 grandchildren, Beverly Hoomes Davis, Robert Edward Hoomes, Sandra Hoomes Keith, Heath Randall Hoomes, Kimberly Coale, Tracey Coale, Sylvia Coker Drake, Susan Coker Bond, Timothy Craig Coker, Marvin Thomas Hoomes Jr., Michael Sean Martin, and Tonya Martin Turner; a sister, Rose Cox; 18 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Minister Clifford Dixon  and Minister Richard Rogers officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens with Craver’s Funeral Home directing.
