A former Brewton resident was the victim of a shooting at the home of her father in Pensacola Sept. 5, police said.
Kurnetta Elaine Ezell, 63, was allegedly shot by her father, Preston Lee Ezell, 86, who officials say suffers from dementia.
A news release from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were summoned to the home on Monarch Lane at 1:15 a.m. Sept. 5 in response to a shots fired disturbance. An offense report made by officer Jared Seabury said Preston admitted to firing the shot that eventually took the life of his daughter.
The report further stated officers entered the residence and discovered Elaine Ezell lying face down in the hallway. Emergency responders were called to the scene and the victim was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital, where she died.
The incident report initially listed the victim as Ezell’s sister, according to information from Sgt. Ted Roy.
The case will be sent to the state attorney’s office for review, Roy said. Ezell was not placed under arrest at the scene.
Memorial services for  Ezell were held Friday, Sept. 11, at Trahan Funeral Home of Penasacola.
