The T.R. Miller Tiger football team found themselves in a dogfight this past Friday night, as they remained undefeated with a 3-0 record after a 28-24 win over Bayside Academy.
Riggs said his team did manage to get the win at the end, but they were disappointed because they had a chance to put the game away early. After an exchange of punt they got the ball on the 30-yard line, but failed to take the early lead.
This week, things will be a little different as the Tigers welcome 0-3 Central-Hayneville to Brewton.
T.R. Miller is 5-0 all time against Central-Hayneville having outscored the Lions 236-58 with all games having scored at least 45 or more points.
Central of Hayneville went winless last season and lost last week to Calhoun 65-12.
Central has only 19 wins in 10 years (2000-2009).
So far in the 2009 season, T.R. Miller has scored 101 points while giving up 57.
The Tigers have outscored their opponents for an average of 33-19 in their first three games.
Central of Hayneville has been outscored by 159 points in their first three games. The Lions’ opponents have scored 177 points to Hayneville’s 18 for an average of 59-6 in three games.
Central of Hayneville’s first three opponents have scored at least 56 points on them. The Lions’ have scored 0, 6, and 12 points in their first three games including a 65-12 drubbing last week at the hands of rival Calhoun.
The Tigers of Brewton will open a four-game home stand this week and will not have to travel until week eight when they travel to take on Straughn.
The only other road game for the Tigers will be at rival W.S. Neal in the Battle of Murder Creek in week 10.
While no team wants to overlook any opponent, Riggs said it is always hard to keep players focused.
T.R. Miller’s Tigers and the Lions of Central of Hayneville will tangle Friday night at 7 p.m. at Brewton Municipal Stadium.
