The W.S. Neal football team matched their win total from last season last Friday night with a 54-32 win over Calhoun.
This Friday, the Eagles will take on the Hillcrest Jaguars at home for a region homecoming game.
W.S. Neal improved to 2-3 overall with their win last week. Hillcrest lost to Spanish Fort 45-0 and fell to 0-5 overall on the season.
Both teams are 0-3 in region play heading into Friday night’s game in East Brewton.
W.S. Neal head coach Kevin Jordan said his team didn’t play well at times Friday against Calhoun, but they played hard.
Jordan said this week’s opponent’s record is misleading at 0-5.
W.S. Neal defensive coordinator Coy Campbell said the Hillcrest offense will be a form of the pistol offense, which they also saw against Clarke County.
Along with the challenge of playing an athletic team in Hillcrest this week, it is also homecoming for the Eagles.
While a homecoming win will be big for the Eagles, a win will also be a region win for the Eagles as well.
W.S. Neal has not won a region game since defeating rival T.R. Miller in the annual Battle of Murder Creek game Oct. 26 at home in week nine.
The Eagles got their second win over the Tigers with a 14-8 win in overtime. That is a current streak of 0-10.
Campbell agreed with Jordan about a region win.
