Road rules tested

A local developer told the Escambia County Commission Monday he was not aware of two-year-old subdivision regulations when he bought more than 100 acres in the county.
Mason Fleming asked commissioners for a variance to the subdivision regulations currently in place for subdivision roads.
Fleming’s concern is over the regulations as they were put into place by the commission in June 2007. He asked that those regulations be “watered down” to suit the purpose for which the roads are intended, he said.
County Engineer Bill Bridges said the regulations were put into place to ensure the safety of county residents in any area.
Commission Larry White said the regulations are up for consideration at any time and the county is willing to sit with Fleming to consider all options.
Bridges told Fleming he could submit a request for a variance in the regulations and they would be considered.
The commission did not take any action on Fleming’s request Monday.
