Brewton firefighters have safety on their mind all year long. The week of Oct. 4-10 has been set aside to bring fire safety to everyone’s mind.
Brewton Fire Chief Lawrence Weaver said preventing home fires is a smart step to take.
The National Fire Protection Association is also promoting the themed week through a variety of brochures and other informational material.
To celebration the weeklong event, members of the Brewton Fire Department will hold a special demonstration Oct. 8 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the parking lot at Walmart on Douglas Avenue.
Also on hand for the event will be Sparky the Firedog with plenty of fire facts available for children and parents alike. Engines from the fleet of fire trucks for the department will also be available to inspect.
Weaver said as a community service to help prevent fires and save lives, the Brewton Fire Department staff offers fire alarm installation and service to residents.
Weaver said one way to stay fire smart is to make sure that a residence address is visible from the street in day and night conditions.
Weaver said the department has been offering an aid in making a residence easier to find in any weather or lighting condition.
Signs with address numbers and posts are available from the Brewton Fire Department for $25 each.
Installation is included for residents inside the Brewton city limits. The signs are available to anyone whether inside or outside the city limits, Weaver said.
For additional information on fire safety or prevention, smoke alarm installation or address signs; contact the Brewton Fire Department at 867-7165 or at the department’s offices located inside the firehouse on St. Nicholas Avenue.
