The 2009 Christmas Project is already in the works, and the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce-sponsored program is in need.
Michelle Jones, chamber administrative assistant, said the state of the economy is creating more people in need than has been seen in recent years.
Although donations have already been coming into the office for the project, Jones said donations might not be able to cover all of the requests for assistance this holiday season.
Jones said typically the Christmas Project provides holiday gifts and necessities to 100 elderly residents along with approximately 600 children.
The deadline for parents to return forms to their child’s school is Oct. 9.
For those who wish to make a monetary donation, Jones is requesting that donations be made by Oct. 15.
Jones said monetary donations aren’t the only kind of donations a person can make to help with the project.
For those who can’t spend the required amount item donations will also be accepted, Jones said.
Students at Brewton Elementary and Middle Schools, W.S. Neal Elementary and Middle Schools, Pollard-McCall Junior High School and Flomaton Elementary School have received information regarding applications for the program.
For additional information or for applications for assistance, contact the Chamber of Commerce at 867-3224 or at Brewton City Hall.
