After a 29-24 win over the No. 6 and undefeated Luverne Tiger team Friday night at home, the T.R. Miller Tiger football team is in position to clinch the class 3A region one championship this Friday night with a win at Straughn.
T.R. Miller is currently 7-0 overall and 5-0 in region play while Straughn comes into Friday night’s game with a 4-3 overall record and a 4-1 record in the region after a 49-0 win over Calhoun Friday night.
T.R. Miller Tiger head coach Jamie Riggs said he thought the win over Luverne was a good win.
Riggs said he was proud of his players because sometimes the only thing they do is just hang in there and manage to score more points than the other team.
This week, the Tigers will travel to take on Straughn, a team they beat 49-35 and have beaten six of the last seven times they have played losing in 2002 at Straughn.
Riggs said that as for the Straughn defense, they are similar as in years past as they like to give you multiple looks.
Riggs also noted the Tigers will have to play at Straughn, the first road game for the Tigers of Brewton in four weeks.
Game time between the T.R. Miller Tigers and the Straughn Tigers is set for 7 p.m. at Straughn High School.
