City increases court fines

Brewton City Councilmen approved an increase that will affect those who have to appear in the city’s municipal court.
Steve Yuhasz, who serves as clerk for Brewton’s municipal court, told the council the increase was allowable under state law.
Yuhasz said. “The additional funds will be placed in a corrections fund to be used for the operation and maintenance of municipal court.”
The council agreed to raise court costs fees by $48.50 for traffic court and by $93 per case for misdemeanor charges. Total court costs for traffic court are now at $147 with misdemeanor charges be assessed a total of $225 per case after the approved increase.
