Resident concerned about spraying

Escambia County commissioners heard comments from a concerned Atmore area citizen Monday regarding the roadside spraying program being completed along county highways.
Robert Mays, an Atmore resident, expressed his distress over the spraying of underbrush throughout the county.
Bill Bridges, county engineer, said the spraying project was completed recently and should not be an eyesore.
Mays asked if the county had conducted an environmental study on the effects of the chemicals used in the spraying project. The project was completed by Naturechem, Inc.
Commissioner Brandon Smith told Mays the work being done in the county will take some time to be seen as a positive. Until new growth in the spring, roadsides may appear unsightly.
Commission David Stokes said the project will hopefully get control over fast-growing grasses that are becoming a nuisance throughout the county.
