Students had a holiday Monday as their parents went to school to learn.
Escambia County and Brewton City schools held Parenting Day activities, inlcuding training sessions and parent-teacher conferences.
Brewton Elementary School is also conducting its annual book fair at the same time. The students have been checking the books that are available and on Parenting Day, the parents got the same opportunity.
Rhonda Joyner, director of the media center, said that the book fair was successful.
The teachers were also able to make appointments to meet the parents.
Some of the schools celebrating Parenting Day went even farther by having special programs for teachers and parents in order to discuss the technology that is being used in the classroom.
Donnie Rotch, T.R. Miller High School principal, said that the turnout went very well.
W.S. Neal Elementary School was one of those who had a special program to give both teachers and parents the opportunity to see what is happening in the school rooms.
Workshops and activities were planned for the whole school day where parents were encouraged to attend programs and demonstrations allowing them to understand the activities of their child.
Teachers and parents were shown the use of the laptops that are now used in every classroom. The school has 25 laptops that were gotten through the 21st Century grant money.
The 10 sets of clickers allow students to follow on the projection screen whatever the classes are about and solve the problems on the screen.
The teachers and parents were also treated to a Mobi board demonstration. This technology allows any kind of computer material to be accessed with the MOBI board.
Each teacher has one of the boards and is able to put anything up on the screen to teach the class. Teachers can see the results of the students immediately, giving more time to devote to the class.
Teachers and parents were able to use Parenting Day to  work together and for the parents to have a better idea of what is being taught in their children’s classrooms every day. Parenting Day gives both teacher and parent time to discuss the learning process of day to day school for the students.
