East Brewton residents have a new police chief.
Mayor Terry Clark said Kenneth Brazile has been hired for the position, which became official following last week’s vote by the council.
Brazile replaces former chief B.C. Cooper.
Clark said Brazile’s experience made him a good choice for the position.
Brazile comes to the chief’s position in East Brewton after spending 14 years at the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department as an officer.
Brazile, a 1989 graduate of W.S. Neal High School, said accepting the position was a good decision for him.
Brazile credited former chief Cooper with a good foundation in the department.
Brazile said he didn’t plan to make any big changes in the operation of the department.
Brazile began working for the East Brewton Police Department on a part-time basis two years ago as an investigator. He was named to the chief position last week.
No details have been released concerning Cooper’s departure from the department.
