BMS hoops split against Jay

In the 2009 season opener for the Brewton Middle School basketball teams Thursday night at home against Jay, the Lady Tigers lost 39-14 and the boys won 29-27.
Brewton Middle School will be back in action Monday at Jay at 4 p.m. with the girls playing first.
Brewton will take on Flomaton at home Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. tip and will play Earnest Ward Thursday at home at 5 p.m.
The two teams will round out their November schedule with home games against McCall on Nov. 16 at 4:30 p.m. and against W.S. Neal on Nov. 17 also at 4:30 p.m.
The rest of the BMS Tiger basketball schedule will be in December beginning on Dec. 1 at Earnest Ward at 5 p.m.
On Dec. 10, the team will take on W.S. Neal at 4 p.m. On Dec. 14 the team will take on McCall with a 6 p.m. start.
On Dec. 15, the Tigers will close out their season with a road game against Flomaton at 4 p.m.
All games in December are on the road.

The Lady Tigers, after tying the game at 2-2, fell behind 18-2 with 5:02 left in the first half as Jay held a 24-10 lead at the half enroute to a 25-point win.
Nastarcia Drakeford led Brewton with five points followed by Onesha Hall with four, Shakera Nicholson with three, and Kristen Booker with two points in the loss.
Jay led 14-2 after the first quarter as Nicholson had two points in the quarter and 24-4 at the half as Nicholson and Drakeford both had one free throw each.
At the end of the third quarter, Jay led 33-8.
Booker and Hall both had two points in the quarter.
In the fourth, both teams scored six points as Drakeford had four points and Hall had two.

After holding Jay scoreless in the first quarter and leading 8-0 and 15-8 at the half, the Royals outscored the Tigers 19-14 in the second half to hold on for a two-point, 29-27 win.
Brewton had three scores with six points in Kieon Smith, Corey Carter, and Allen Boyd.
Kellyn Wynn had three points along with Trae Walker. Chandler Brown and Caden Lodge both had two points.
Shaun Tolbert had one point in the win.
Brewton led 8-0 at the end of the first quarter but was outscored 8-7 in the second quarter to lead 15-8 at the half.
In the third quarter, Jay went on a 6-0 run to cut the Brewton lead to 19-15 with 1:53 left in the quarter.
Trae Walker ended the run with a Tiger basketball to go ahead 21-15 and Kellyn Wynn added a 3-pointer with 11.6 seconds left in the third quarter to give Brewton a 24-17 lead at the end of three quarters.
In the fourth, Brewton took a 29-24 lead with 4:16 left in the game, but was held without any points the remainder of the game while Jay cut the lead to 29-27 after a 3-pointer at the 4:11 mark.
A lane violation against Jay knocked out a Royal point that had cut the lead to 29-28 with 2:26. The Tigers returned the favor on a free throw of their own with 21.9 seconds left.
After a Tiger miss, a desperation Jay 3-pointer missed everything as Brewton grabbed the rebound and won by two points to get their first win of the season in their first game.
