Hazard plan group to meet

The Escambia County Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Escambia County Courthouse in room 109. The meeting is open to the public to those who wish to give input regarding existing projects and/or new projects that need to be addressed.
The focus of this meeting is to develop a long term plan for natural hazards that might impact Escambia County. Such hazards include but are not limited to tornadoes, severe weather, floods, winter storms, and droughts.
According to federal and state regulations, funding for projects in the county cannot be issued unless the projects are addressed in an approved county plan.
The current hazard mitigation planning board consists of the following agencies: Escambia County EMA/Homeland Security; Escambia County Commission; Escambia County Sheriffs’ Department; Escambia County 911; Atmore Fire Department; Flomaton Police Department; Poarch Creek Indian Emergency Management Agency; Escambia County and Brewton City Schools; municipalities of Brewton, Flomaton, Atmore, AL; and private nonprofit organizations.
