Mr. William Roy Stokes, 77, a native and long-time resident of Brewton, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009. He attended the University of Alabama on a baseball scholarship and Troy State University on a football scholarship, graduated from Troy State in 1954, and graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1957. He practiced law in Brewton until his retirement in 2001. He served as Judge of the Inferior Court of Escambia County from 1958 until 1964. He was preceded in death by his parents, B.F. Stokes, Jr. and Minnie Irene Stokes; stepmother, Margaret Hesler; and brothers, B. F. Stokes, III and Charles Fred Stokes.
Visitation will be held Saturday Nov. 21, 2009 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Ed Glaize and Dr. Thomas Wayne Butts officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
