As many as 200 people in Brewton and East Brewton received a free Thanksgiving meal — turkey and all the trimmings — thanks to the generosity of two local churches.
Christ Kingdom Ministry Center in Brewton and Divine Temple in East Brewton prepared dozens of meals for distribution Thursday.
For the third year in a row, Divine Temple members served and delivered free dinners, although this was the first year the group offered diners a seat at a table, hosting their event at the East Brewton Civic Center.
Organizers said they had served 85 people by 11:45 a.m. Thursday and were pleased with the turnout and success of the event.
At Christ Kingdom Ministry Center, 70 to 80 people had been served dinners by noon, church members said.
This was the first year the ministry center offered free Thanksgiving dinners, and church member Wayne Cain said he hopes the event becomes a tradition.
