Escambia County Schools will remain closed today, with two of the communities served by the school system still underwater.
Brewton City Schools, which closed Tuesday, will be open today.
Escambia County Superintendent Billy Hines said he hopes the schools will be open Thursday and Friday.
County schools will make up their two days out on Jan. 4 — originally scheduled to be a teacher in-service day — and March 14, scheduled as a school holiday.
City schools have pushed exams back one day because of the absence Tuesday. They were originally scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, said Assistant Superintendent Baxter Baker. The first three exams will now be held on Thursday, the next three on Friday, and the final exam on Jan. 4, the day students will return to school after the Christmas holidays. That day, as it was in the county, was originally scheduled as a teacher in-service day.
Baker said some teachers may not be able to make it to school today, but many will drive the long way around from East Brewton or Jay, Fla., to get to class.
In other closing information, Citation and T.R. Miller Mill are reportedly scheduled to be closed today.
