Flooding was so deep in Flomaton Tuesday that the new butterfly house at Turtle Point Environmental Science Center — 13 feet above the ground — was filled with water, witnesses said.
Escambia County Sheriff Grover Smith said the county has a big problem in Flomaton they are addressing.
That problem only worsens with two major arteries being closed in that area.
Flood waters had not reached Flomaton High School as of late Tuesday afternoon, but teachers and students had been laying sandbags at the entrances of the alternative school throughout the day.
Turtle Point, a jewel for the Escambia County School system, remained under water Tuesday evening.
Water still appeared to be rising late Tuesday afternoon, though not as fast as it had been earlier in the day.
