UPDATE: Officials urge motorists to stay safe

David Adams, director of the Escambia County Emergency Management Agency, said things aren't always what they seem and encouraged motorists to remember that fact.
Adams said officials with the Alabama Department of Transportation are in the process of assessing damage to bridges throughout the area, but a full assessment can't be done until water has receded.
Adams said once final determinatiosn can be made streets, roads and bridges can be reopened.
