East Brewton has come up with a unique way to help serve the community without paying more money for it — by adding volunteer police officers to the city’s police force.
Volunteer firefighters have been a part of our county’s emergency services community for years, so it makes sense for volunteer police officers to be on the streets as well.
When you consider the dedication it takes for a police officer to help protect our community, imagine being an officer and not getting paid. These officers will be dedicated to helping their neighbors and protecting our community, but they will also be held to the same standards as other officers.
Kudos to the city and to new police Chief Kenny Brazile for the smart solution to a financial problem many communities are enduring right now.
