Lady Tigers get first area win Saturday

In their first area game of the season and first game of 2010, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers jumped out to a 13-0 lead en route to a 60-37 win over Choctaw County Saturday.
The win improved the Lady Tigers to 11-2 overall and to 1-0 in area play.
While there were some things  Jackson said were not good in the win, he added that he is  getting some new people that are coming on the scene a little bit that are contributing some valuable minutes.
After the 13-0 run over the first 5:01 of the game, Choctaw County ended the run and scored the final four points of the first quarter as the Lady Tigers led 13-4 after the first quarter of play.
In the second quarter, Choctaw County cut the lead to nine points at 19-10 with 4:20 left to play before the half before the Lady Tigers used a 6-0 run over the next minute to take a 25-10 lead with 3:20 left in the quarter.
The Lady Tigers would go on and outscore Choctaw County 19-13 in the quarter to grab a 32-17 lead at halftime.
T.R. Miller Lady Tiger Keydra Shedrone, who led with 22 points in the game, had 16 points in the first half.
Both teams swapped buckets to open the second half as T.R. Miller held a 34-19 lead with 7:25 left in the third quarter.
From that point, the Lady Tigers went on an 11-0 run to take a 45-19 lead at the 2:35 mark in the third quarter.
T.R. Miller went on to end the quarter with a 50-26 lead after outscoring Choctaw County 18-9.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers opened with a 6-0 run to make it a 56-26 lead with 5:51 left to play in the game. The Lady Tigers were outscored 11-10 in the fourth quarter but it was not enough to beat them as they held on for a 23-point win.
Shedrone finished with 22 points to lead T.R. Miller and was joined in double figures by Nakiya Smith with 17 points and Leah Brundidge with 12 points.
Courtney Jones added seven points in the win for the Lady Tigers and Elizabeth Reed chipped in two points.
T.R. Miller shot 9-of-17 from the free throw line in the win Saturday and Choctaw County shot 8-for-16.
T.R. Miller was set to take on Bayside Academy Tuesday at home in another area game and will travel to Cottage Hill Friday for their first road area game.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action at home Tuesday, Jan. 12, when they will take on rival W.S. Neal.
Game time is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. in Brewton beginning with the B-teams, followed by the girls and then the varsity.
