Tigers fall hard Saturday

In the first game of the new year, two days into a new decade, the T.R. Miller Tigers almost had the century mark scored on them Saturday at home against Choctaw County.
The Tigers dropped to 0-10 overall and to 0-1 in area play as they lost to Choctaw County 98-49.
T.R. Miller fell to an early 8-0 run in the first 2:32 of the game and later fell to a 12-0 run in the first quarter when Choctaw County outscored the Tigers 30-8.
T.R. Miller would later be outscored 22-14 in the second quarter to trail 52-22 at the half. They were outscored 21-17 in the third quarter to trail by 34 heading into the fourth quarter, 73-39.
Choctaw County opened the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run to take an 83-39 lead with 4:44 left to play in the game. They attempted as many 3-pointers and shots as possible as they outscored T.R. Miller 25-10 in the quarter to win by 49 points. A last second chance at a lay up to post 100 points did not fall.
Keenan Pride led T.R. Miller with 16 points and Derrick Riley added 12 points in the loss for the Tigers.
Terez Lane had 11 points and Walter Smith had five points.
Kori Jackson had four points and Antonio Payne had one point in the loss.
Choctaw County had eight 3-pointers in the game and was 7-of-15 from the free throw line in the win. T.R. Miller was 8-of-18 in the loss.
T.R. Miller coach Marc Edge had no comment after the game.
T.R. Miller was set to take on Bayside Academy Tuesday at home in another area game and will travel to Cottage Hill Friday for their first road area game.
The Tigers will be back in action at home Tuesday, Jan. 12, when they take on rival W.S. Neal.
Game time is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. in Brewton beginning with the B-teams, followed by the girls.
The varsity teams for each school will meet in the final game of the evening.
