Short-handed Warhawks fall to 3-8

Despite three players in double figures, one scoring 26 points, and another posting a double-double, the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball team lost their 2010 debut Tuesday night at home to Mississippi Gulf Coast by a score of 85-78.
The loss dropped the Warhawks to 3-8 this season with their second straight loss and seventh in their last nine games. It was JDCC’s first game since Dec. 14.
JDCC trailed by one point, 40-39, after the first half of play Tuesday night but was outscored 45-39 in the second half to lose by six points.
Damien Jackson, Kentrail Brown, and Logan Campbell all posted double figures for the Warhawks in the loss.
Jackson, who had six 3-pointers in the game, posted 26 points to lead the Warhawks and had three steals, four assists, and four rebounds in the loss.
Brown had 20 points with one steal, two assists, and three rebounds in the loss for the Warhawks and Campbell had 13 points, one steal, one assist, and 13 rebounds.
Marquis Williams chipped in eight points for the Warhawks with five steals to lead in the game and six assists to also lead.
Corey Redfearn had six points, two blocks to lead the Warhawks, and five rebounds. Jamey Goddin had three points, one steal, two assists, and five rebounds.
Dennis Miller chipped in two points, one steal, two assists, and two rebounds for the Warhawks.
JDCC shot 41 percent from the field in the loss and was 32 percent from the 3-point range.
The Warhawks were 15-of-23 from the free throw line for 65 percent.
JDCC will be back in action today at home as they return to conference play with a 2 p.m. tip against Faulkner State.
Following today’s game, the Warhawks will be back in action Monday at home against LBW.
Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Brewton and will be another conference game for JDCC.
