Mr. Melvin “Don” Wilson, 76, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at his residence on Juniper Creek Drive, after an extended illness. He was a native and life long resident of Brewton. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, and had served in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired machine tender at Smurfit-Stone with 39 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn Baggett Wilson of Brewton; a son, Greg Wilson of Brewton; a daughter, Donna (Tom) Couture of Brewton; two sisters, Sylvia (Ezra) Kent of Macon, Ga., and Peggy (Frank) Shaffer of Warner Robbins, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Amelia Couture and Avery Couture.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Bryan Garrett and the Rev. Roy Skidmore officiating. Burial followed at Weaver Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
