Two East Brewton teens have been called heroes by local law enforcement and fire officials.
Montrel Banks, and his cousin, Marquese Banks, responded to cries for help from one of their neighbors at Wynnchase Apartments on Williamson Street in East Brewton.
East Brewton Firefighter Joey Salter said the call came into the station at 9:13 p.m. Tuesday.
Salter said there were no burn marks inside the apartment, only evidence of where the appliance had caught fire.
Marquese Banks said he didn’t think about anything except helping his neighbors.
East Brewton Police Chief Kenneth Brazile said the two were to be commended for their efforts. “We hear so much negative about today’s youth,” Brazile said. “These young men have shown there are good young people that are willing to help others. They are certainly to be commended for their heroic acts.”
The teens are ninth-graders at W.S. Neal High School.
