Mr. William Melvin Allen Sr., 71, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, in a Winter Haven hospital. He was a native of Bartow, Fla., and had lived in Gulfport, Miss., and Mobile, before returning to Winter Haven for the last year and one half. He was retired from the U.S. Department of Labor where he worked as a field representative. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and J.H. McCormick Lodge 149.
He is survived by his son, William Allen Jr. of Polk City, Fla., five daughters, Lisa M. Brazel and Tammy L. Allen, both of Mobile, Julie Y. Allen of Winter Haven, Tina Smith of Lakeland, Fla. and April J. Taylor of Bartow, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rich Reinach officiating. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Saraland with Flomaton Funeral home directing.
