Brewton area residents will have a chance to join community service projects in the near future thanks to the launch of a new club in town.
Jim Smith, governor of the South Alabama/Northwest Florida district of Civitan International, said the chance to start a new club in Brewton is just part of his goal of office.
Smith, along with other district representatives of the organization, traveled to Brewton recently and made the decision to move forward with organizing a club here.
Smith said Civitan International is much like other service organizations with one main difference.
Smith said the organizational meeting for the Brewton Civitans will be held Thursday for those interested in joining the organization.
The meeting will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at David’s Catfish House on The Trails at Brewton, Smith said. Lunch will be served at noon.
Civitan is an all-volunteer international service organization of more than 55,0000 members in 30 nations working together in community clubs to help those less fortunate than themselves.
