Warhawk baseball splits with MMI

After missing several games due to snow and rain, the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team got back to action Tuesday. The team earned a split with Marion Military to improve their record to 2-4 during a home field event.
JDCC lost game one 7-6 before taking game two 4-3.
Blevins said he is starting to see a few more guys step up and contribute both offensively and defensively.
The Warhawks of Jefferson Davis Comunity College will take on Jeff State today at home at 1 p.m.
Game one:

In game one Tuesday with the game tied 3-3, the Warhawks fell behind 7-3 before cutting the lead 7-6, but that would be as close as they would get as they lost by one run and fall to 1-4.
The Warhawks held a 2-0 lead after the first inning before Marion overtook with a three run second inning and lead 3-2.
JDCC tied the game at 3-3 after the second inning, but Marion took a 6-3 lead in the top of the fourth inning and a 7-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning.
Ryne Phillips brought JDCC within one run in the bottom of the fifth with a 3-run homerun but it was not enough as JDCC lost by one.
Phillips was 2-for-2 at the plate with a homerun and three RBIs and Ryne Jacobs was 1-for-1.
Stephen Scoggins was 1-for-2 and Matthew Watkins was 1-for-3. Harry Haring was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Taylor Register was 3-for-3 with one RBI and a double.
Shane Ikner took the loss on the mound as he went four innings and allowed six runs on seven hits, walked three, and struck out three.
Michael King pitched in relief and went the final three innings allowing one run on four hits, one walk, and struck out one.
Game two: JDCC 4,

After a leadoff homerun by Marion in the top of the seventh that tied the game a 3-3, JDCC plated the game-winning run in the bottom of the inning to win 4-3.
With the game tied at 3-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Xavier Cunningham led the inning of with a single and a throwing error on the play advanced him to second base.
Blake Long walked and placed runners and first and second with no outs when Taylor Register singled to the outfield to score Cunningham for the win.
Register went 2-for-3 with one RBI and Robbie Jernigan was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for JDCC in the win.
Maurice Leverett went 1-for-3 and Phillips was 1-for-3.
Adam Pouncey was 1-for-2 at the plate in the win.
Ryne Drummonds got the win on the mound in relief of starter Andrew Favant.
Favant went the first five innings and allowed one earned run on seven hits, walked none and struck out nine.
Drummonds went the final two innings and allowed one earned run on two hits, walked two and struck out one.
MMI held a 1-0 lead after the top of the first before JDCC responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to grab a 2-1 lead.
Both teams scored one run each in the third inning as JDCC held a 3-2 lead until the top of the seventh inning.
