Mrs. Peggy Gill Bracken, 78, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at her residence after an extended illness. She was a native of Walker Springs, and attended college at Auburn, before moving to Brewton in 1950. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Brewton, and the teacher for Lydia Ladies Sunday school for 50 years. She was a former home economics teacher at W.S. Neal and was retired from the County Extension Service with the state of Alabama in 1991. She was a member of the Escambia County Historical Society and the Meadorwood Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Bracken and a brother, John D. Gill.
She is survived by a son, John (Bonnie) Bracken of Lakeland, Ga.; two daughters, Karen (Danny) Cottrell and Melissa (Wendell) Ray, both of Brewton; five grandchildren, Timothy Cottrell, Mathew Ray, Peggy Ellen Ray, Laura Bracken and Ben Bracken; and one great-grandchild, Hannah Cottrell.
Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, March 3, at 11 a.m. at Brewton First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Fitts, the Rev. Ron Headley and the Rev. John Finklea officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
