JDCC basketball ends season

The number five played a key role for the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball team as they ended their season Saturday with a 64-50 loss to LBW.
The loss for the Warhawks ended their season with a 5-20 overall record. While the Warhawks ended the season with only five wins, they ended with only five players as well.
JDCC lost earlier to Bishop State to end the regular season with a 71-44 loss to fall to 5-19 overall and to 4-12 in conference play.
Bishop State 71, JDCC 44
JDCC was outscored 31-13 in the first half before falling 40-31 in the second half to lose by 27 points to Bishop State.
JDCC shot 25 percent from the field in the loss and was 3-for-31 from the 3-point area for 10 percent.
Kentrail Brown led with 15 points and one block and Jayme Goddin added nine points.
Damien Jackson chipped in eight points and Marquis Williams added seven points, but led with four assists and eight rebounds.
Zavier Likely added five points in the loss.
LBW 64, JDCC 50
JDCC ended their season with a 64-50 loss to LBW on Saturday. The Warhawks trailed 25-18 after the first half and was outscored by seven points in the second half, 39-32, to lose by 14 points.
JDCC shot 27 percent from the field and was 6-for-35 from the 3-point area.
Brown led with 25 points and posted a double-double with 12 rebounds.
Brown also led with two steals along with Likely who posted 11 points.
Jackson added nine points and Williams added three points, one block and led with four assists.
Goddin chipped in two points and one block.
JDCC baseball:
The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team fell to 4-10 overall in their recent stretch of games.
JDCC lost two games to Mississippi Gulf Coast and one to PJC before splitting with Bevill State and losing to Northwest Florida.
JDCC lost on the road to Faulkner State Thursday 4-3 to fall to 4-10 and 0-1 in conference play.
JDCC will be returning back to Faulkner State today for a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m.
JDCC will be back home Friday, March 12, when they take on Chattahoochee Valley at home at 1 p.m. The two teams will tangle again  Saturday in a doubleheader  at noon and 2 p.m.
Due to space limitations, game two with Bevill and other games along with Lady Warhawk softball will be in a later edition of the paper.
PJC 8, JDCC 4
Jefferson Davis Community College’s Warhawk baseball team dropped to 3-5 last week at PJC as they lost 8-4.
PJC used a five-run fourth inning to turn a 3-2 lead for the Warhawks into a 7-3 deficit for JDCC.
Both teams would add one run each in the later innings as JDCC lost by four runs.
Blake Long was 1-for-3 for the Warhawks at the plate and Ryne Phillips was 1-for-4 with one RBI and a double.
Harry Haring led JDCC with a 2-for-4 day at the plate with a homerun and one RBI.
Taylor Register was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Reid Wynn was 1-for-4.
Andrew Favant took the loss on the mound as he went 3 1/3 innings allowed three earned runs (six total) on six hits, two walks, and two strikeouts.
Shane Ikner went 4 2/3innings and allowed one earned run (two total) on no hits, three walks and struck out six.
Game one: Miss. Gulf Coast 9, JDCC 3
JDCC’s Warhawks dropped to 3-6 with a 9-3 loss to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College last Thursday at home.
Mississippi held JDCC to only three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning while scoring two runs in the third, fourth, sixth, and seventh innings and adding one run in the fifth inning.
Michael King took the loss on the mound for JDCC as he went three innings allowing two runs on four hits, walked two and struck out one.
Xavier Cunningham was 1-for-2 and Ryne Phillips was 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI and a double.
Harry Haring was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Taylor Register was 1-for-2. Robbie Jernigan was 1-for-3 and Zach Payne added one RBI.
Game two: Miss. Gulf Coast 1, JDCC 0
JDCC lost 1-0 in game two to Mississippi to fall to 3-7 overall.
The lone run in the game was scored in the top of the fourth inning.
Ryne Drummonds took the loss on the mound for the Warhawks as he went seven innings allowing one run on four hits, walked four and struck out seven.
Cunningham was 2-for-3 and Phillips was 1-for-2. Haring was 1-for-3 and Jernigan was 1-for-1.
Game one: Bevill State 11, JDCC 9
A late rally for the Warhawks against Bevill State fell short as the Warhawks lost by two runs and fell to 3-8 overall.
Trailing 9-3 after three innings of play, JDCC cut the lead to 9-6 in the top of the fifth inning only to see Bevill score two runs in the sixth inning to claim an 11-6 lead.
The Warhawks would add three runs in the top of the seventh inning but it was not enough.
Ryne Phillips was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI and Harry Haring was 2-for-4 with a double with one RBI. Matthew Watkins added an RBI in the loss and Taylor Register was 2-for-4 with a homerun and two RBIs.
Robbie Jernigan was 1-for-4 and Reid Wynn was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a homerun.
Zach Payne took the loss for the Warhawks going 1/3 of an inning allowing three earned runs (five total) on five hits, two walks and struck out one.
William Shell went 5 2/3 inning allowing four earned runs (six total) on six hits, walked four and struck out five.
