Lady Eagle softball hangs with UMS-Wright

After starting their season 3-0, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagle softball team lost their fourth straight game and first area game 12-2 Tuesday on the road against UMS-Wright in Mobile.
But while the Lady Eagles lost by 10 runs, the score was a lot closer in the game.
Haney said the game against UMS-Wright was 4-2 in the fourth inning, but a couple of errors led to two runs to make it 6-2.
Lauren Boatwright was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Eagles in the loss and Autumn Hinote was 1-for-3 and reached twice on errors.
Anna Nelson was 1-for-3 along with Heather Elliott who was 1-for-3.
Britta Wood reached base in each of her three at-bats on walks for the Lady Eagles.
Kaitlin Hadaway pitched 5 2/3 innings for W.S. Neal against the Lady Bulldogs allowing only four hits. She had two strikeouts and five walks.
W.S. Neal was set to play in the Florala Invitational varsity tournament today in Florala.
In the tournament with W.S. Neal will be Paxton, Florala, and Samson.
The Lady Eagles will begin pool play against Florala at 10:15 a.m. and will play Samson at 12:45 p.m.
Depending on the Lady Eagles seed, they will play in a single elimination tournament at 2:30 p.m. or at 4 p.m.
The No. 1 seed will take on the No. 4 seed at 2:30 p.m. and the No. 2 seed will take on the No. 3 seed at 4 p.m.
The championship game will be plated with the first pitch at 6 p.m.
Tournament games will be played at the Kiwanis Field located behind the football field in Florala.
W.S. Neal’s game with Escambia County that was set to be played Thursday was postponed due to rain. No makeup date for the game had been set as of press time.
The Lady Eagles will return to action Tuesday when they take on T.R. Miller at 4 p.m. in Brewton at the YMCA Sports Park.
The game will be a Pink-themed game to raise money for Relay for Life.
All fans are asked to wear pink. Donations will be taken for Relay for Life.
